K D Jadhav - True Indian Sports Hero.








He was the first individual event Olympic Medal Winner in 1952. He won bronze in wrestling 52 kg freestyle event.For decades it remained so, till in 1996 when L Paes won another bronze in Tennis.

He was quite poor towards end of life in late 70's and early 80's. If I remember right there was a colony made in his name to honor him but he was not given a flat as he didn't have enough money to purchase one. He used to sell something on Thela outside the same colony for years.

He died in a road accident in 1984.

Forgotten for years, finally Indian Sports administration remembered him again when he was awarded Arjuna award in 2000 & now a wrestling stadium in Delhi is named after him.

Another example of how Indian cricket gets popularity and attention. Other sports are neglected.

Attahasa - Movie on Veerappan.

Unlike in many other countries very few directors in India spend great
effort and time to do deep research on a subject/person.
Director Mr. AMR Ramesh has researched a lot on Veerappan. To do so he had 
discussions with Veerappan's associates, people he kidnapped(like Mr Nagappa Maradagi who was kidnapped along with Dr Rajkumar) and police officers who chased him. After all this research he is making Attahasa. Shiva Kumar part of Verappan's gang is also involved. 

                                                     

There are real events of his life highlighted in this movie like his final encounter and kidnapping of Karnataka film legend Dr. Rajkumar. It's great that few people assisting Mr 
Ramesh behind scenes were themselves involved with Dr. Rajkumar's kidnapping.

Veerappan & Dr Rajkumar

Currently being shot at MM Hills, this movie should be very interesting and realistic. 
The movie will be shot in two languages - "Attahasa" in Kannada and "Vana Yuddham" in Tamil.

Actor Kishore plays the character of Veerappan while Arjun Sarja plays the role of IPS officer Vijay kumar. Well known hindi fillm actor Suresh Oberoi will be seen as Dr. Raj Kumar.

Our salutes to Nawab Pataudi.

He was a confident captain as Ganguly but in 1960's, about 50 years back. As batsman gutsy and unorthodox like Dhoni. He was an excellent fielder in covers and best spinners of his time like Bishen Singh bedi preferred Pataudi(agile like Tiger) in covers when they bowled.




His captaincy and batsmanship should be acknowledged more than recent captains as India's performance in tests was pretty bad about 50 years back. India could never hardly manage winning tests and had never won a test series on foreign soil. 

Pataudi was the first captain to show the way. He lead India to its first ever overseas series win in New Zealand.
Like Ganguly he was aggressive and believed that India can win offshore.

One of the most confident and bold(like TIGER his nick name) batsman and as accepted by most cricketers, BEST CAPTAIN of Indian cricket history..

It's clear by looking at health of few indian cricketers that they are not putting effort to stay fit(some develop tummies when series is not on)..no one is UNFIT during IPL....but in international test series in England(where national prestige is concerned) they start getting unfit...look at how some western countries like england/australian players are...they are 100% fit and strong(effort has to be put to get it)..they often stay out of IPL when next some national assignment is coming up.

In IPL matches they assemble 5-10 days before tournament..try to form team and play..and people are glued to TV to see them..
IPL was copied from the model of EPL (english premier league footnball) ...In EPL football players from different countries but in same club stay together as team for whole year and practice as team.
Then they have gr8 team spirit...and team work..which is reflected in the way they play EPL matches on weekends(espn&star sports)

So right now without a proper proffessional model in place BCCI is minting money..as indians just watch cricket..

All Indians should start seeing other sports like Hockey, tennis, footall etc..

India Lifts Asian Champions Trophy

The 25k is given by Hockey India...not state governments..when india won cricket tournaments in near past...many state governments were jumping one after another to give sites, flats, lakhs of Rs..now when its hockey they are not announcing/initiating anything(apart from Punjab govt - 25 Lacs for team).. Hockey India may be lacking funds but state governments don't...

There was no coverage of tournament by DD Sports/DD1..BAD.

It's a big achievement winning this tourny as South Korea, Pakistan and malaysia also were there.

India triumphs 4-2 - Asian Champions Trophy hockey final

New Delhi: Nobody came on streets, no sweets were distributed, the Tricolour wasn't carried on shoulders and no vocal cords yelled 'Come On' to have a hoarse voice later. But still it was a 'day in the sun' for Indian hockey, when the National Sport breathed and smiled again.

The icing on the cake was that the 4-2 triumph in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey final came against arch-rivals Pakistan. But overall, it was a restorative win for a game that is, honestly speaking, in a derelict state with more lows than highs on and off the pitch.

Wrapped on the knuckles after being axed as the Champions Trophy hosts, chins in Indian hockey were down and it needed a win like this to look up and smile. New coach, an arduous task and nerves jangling like anything against archenemies in a penalty shootout. The boys couldn't have shown more steel to once again resuscitate a sport that is loved, but sadly not cared for.

SIT - " no direct evidence of involvement of Modi"

AHMEDABAD: "God is great!" -- tweeted Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday summing up in three words his reaction to theSupreme Court direction in the 2002 Gulburg Society riots case.

The apex court on Monday refused to pass any order on Modi's alleged inaction to contain the state-wide riots triggered by the Godhra train carnage and referred the matter to the concerned magistrate here for a decision.

The reaction of the 60-year-old BJP leader reflected his relief over the order as he was being accused time and again by opposition Congress and activists of culpability in 2002 riots.

Zakia, widow of former Congress MP Eshan Jaffery had filed a complaint in Supreme Court against Modi and 63 others for death of his husband and others in the 2002 Gulburg Society riots case.

Supreme Court had told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by former CBI chief R K Raghavan to look into the complaint of Jaffery. SIT submitted its report in which they had concluded that no direct evidence of involvement of Modi could be found.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the party was happy with the order.

"We are happy with the Supreme Court ruling. We can understand the desperation and unhappiness of Modi-baiters. After this verdict, the hate campaigners against Modi have lost. They can never win," he said, adding the Supreme Court has upheld the "due process of law".

"Justice says one cannot manufacture evidence. Now the SIT will present its case to the lower court which will hear the case," Javadekar said.

Railway Fair Hike

The railways are likely to effect a mid-term rise in passenger fares. The railway board has sought the political go-ahead for a hike of eight to 12 per cent.


The Railways could also pass on the burden of 10 per cent service tax to the commuters if the finance ministry does not extend the current exemption, which expires in November.
